Description:
Abstract:
Erosional Scarps were identified on Ground Penetrating Radar profiles (see GPR metadata) in order to determine if a coherent sequence of erosional lag deposits could be identified within 4 littoral sub-cells and within the entire Columbia River littoral cell. Lag deposits were ground-truthed periodically by coring into the beach deposits to verify the presence of heavy lag materials. The scarp sequence, along with carbon 14 dating, was then used to spatially constrain the location of continuous foredune ridges within littoral cell and sub-cells.
Purpose:
The primary purpose of this work is to determine the geologic-scale beach accretion rate. This can be compared to historic-scale and decadal scale rates. A secondary purpose is to examine foredune ridge occurence and the temporal relationship to large magnitude subduction zone earthquakes.

Attribute_Accuracy_Report:
GPR scarps attributes are assigned based on morphology of scarp, sequence along profile and observed temporal groupings.
Logical_Consistency_Report:
All data sets within this report are logically consistent, particularly in regard to the temporal domain. That is, dunerige timelines do not cross scarp timelines. Care must be taken (see geologic report) with the C14 interpretations.
Completeness_Report:
Data is complete at this level of detail. Further work could reveal more detail.

Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Report:
Location of GPR profiles is accurate for the purposes of this work. The Erosional Scarp locations are dependant on Profile accuracy, and are accurate for the purposes of this work. Profiles were "heads-up" digitized on aerial photo basemap based on field notes during the field season. Scarps were located to the closest 10m mark. Location is the inferred shoreline position, 10 - 100 m landward, from the retreat scarp position based on modern shoreface morphology.

Process_Description:
Scarps were identified on GPR profiles on a computer monitor (Peterson and Jol). Location was noted and given to GIS Manager (Percy) for geocoding. Geocoding was accomplished by using the position along the linear profile as an "address" and using the address-matching algorithm of the GIS to generate a point file.

Relative starting point for line. Number corresponds to number of meters from GPR profile start. If GPR profile is displayed using more than one polyline, then this number is adjusted to be the relative position of the starting point of this line, as if all lines were connected.
