Ponds, bogs and wetlands occur in the deepest valleys between the foredune ridges as shown by Loomis Lake and associated wetlands and ponds (photo foreground). The semi-continuous foredune ridges extend nearly the full lengths of Long Beach and Clatsop subcells on either side of the Columbia River, but are less continuous within the Grayland and North Beach subcells (Phipps and Messmer, 1984).
